Representative Jon Burns

Speaker of the House

District 159

Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) was elected as Georgia’s 75th Speaker of the House of Representatives in January 2023. He represents the 159th legislative district of Georgia that includes Screven County and portions of Effingham and Bulloch Counties. He was first elected to the House in 2004. 


As Speaker, he serves as the House’s chief administrative officer. Speaker Burns also presides over House floor sessions, assigns bills to committees, and calls matters before the House for debate. As a legislator, Speaker Burns has worked to bring sound environmentally balanced economic development, world class healthcare, quality education, and improved transportation to Georgia. 


Speaker Burns was born and raised in Effingham County. He graduated from Effingham County High School and earned his Bachelor's degree in Political Science from Georgia Southern College. He holds a Juris Doctor degree from John Marshall Law School. Speaker Burns and his wife, Dayle, live on the family farm in northern Effingham County. Mrs. Burns is a retired educator. Speaker Burns is an active member and Sunday School Superintendent at Mizpah Church. They have two sons and their families with best of all, five wonderful grandchildren.

Representative Jan Jones

Speaker Pro-Tempore

District 47

Representative Jan Jones has distinguished herself as a passionate advocate for changing lives and increasing economic opportunities through improved public education and government closer to the people. She proudly serves House District 47 in North Fulton, covering Milton, Mountain Park, and portions of Alpharetta and Roswell. Born in Warner Robins, Jan has lived in Fulton County for 25 years. She graduated with a B.A. in Journalism from the University of Georgia and an M.B.A. in Finance from Georgia State University. A former marketing manager for Home Box Office, she also owned a home-based small business while raising her children.

Representative Chuck Efstration

Majority Leader

District 104

Charles P. Efstration, III (“Chuck”) represents House District 104, which includes the Auburn, Carl, and Hamilton Mill areas of Barrow and Gwinnett counties. A former assistant district attorney and chairman of his county Republican Party, Chuck was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives on December 13, 2013. Prior to being elected Majority Leader, Chuck served as chairman of the House Judiciary Committee and as an administration floor leader for Governor Nathan Deal. Today, Chuck owns a small family law firm in the Dacula area, and has been married to his wife, Ashley Leachman Efstration, since 2014. Together, they have two young boys.

Representative Bruce Williamson

Majority Caucus Chairman

District 112

Bruce was born and raised in Monroe, Georgia, which is the heart of House District 112, in Walton County. He attended Furman University, where he played football and earned a B.A. in Business Administration. He then furthered his studies as a graduate student at the University of Georgia focusing on risk management and insurance. Bruce has a proven record as a successful businessman in Walton County through his ownership and management of Williamson Insurance Agency Inc., Williamson Investments Group LLC and as a co-founder of both Walton Bank and Trust Company and Liberty First Bank of Monroe. Bruce and his wife, Vickie, have been married for 40 years. They are blessed with four sons, two daughters-in-law and four precious grandchildren.

Representative Houston Gaines

Majority Caucus Vice-Chairman

District 120

Elected to the State House in 2018, Houston represents portions of Barrow, Clarke, Jackson and Oconee counties. A third generation Athens native, Houston has spent his career helping grow small businesses. Today, he works at Carter Engineering expanding this successful Oconee County based small business. A summa cum laude economics and political science graduate of the University of Georgia, Houston served as student body president while at UGA and was named to its 2020 "40 Under 40" class. He serves on UGA's School of Public & International Affairs Alumni Board, the Northeast Georgia Boy Scouts Council Executive Board, the Oconee County Sheriff's Office Foundation, and is active in his Rotary club.

Representative James Burchett

Majority Caucus Whip

District 176

James Burchett represents District 176 which includes all of Atkinson and Lanier counties and portions of Coffee, Ware and Lowndes County. Burchett was elected in a special election during the 2019 regular session. He was elected to Majority Caucus Whip in 2023. Burchett is a partner in law firm Burchett & Kemp LLP. with offices in Waycross and St. Simons. Burchett received his Bachelors Degree from Georgia Southern University where he played outside linebacker for the Eagles. James received his Juris Doctorate from Florida Coastal School of Law in Jacksonville.  He and his wife Misty and their two boys Brodie and Beau live on a small farm in Ware County. Burchett enjoys coaching his sons and hunting and fishing on the farm.

Representative Ginny Ehrhart

Majority Caucus Secretary/Treasurer

District 36

Representative Ehrhart represents House District 36, which includes portions of western Cobb County. Ginny has resided in Cobb County for more than 45 years. She attended Osborne High School and graduated from Auburn University with a degree in international trade. She taught high school economics and American government and also home schooled her children before starting a successful small business. She was a television chef and home life consultant for Family Net Television, authoring two cookbooks, Sunday in the South and Seasons in the South. Ginny and her husband, Earl, live in Powder Springs and are parents to six grown children, four grandchildren and a talented Australian shepherd named Dixie.
